Engaging the Next Generation of Smithies

The Club is proud that approximately 100 students from the greater Los Angeles and Pasadena area are currently enrolled at Smith. Interest in Smith is growing, year over year, especially from our state. After Massachusetts and New York, California sends the 3rd highest number of applications to Smith. And, of total admitted students in the state, 58% hail from Southern California!

Consisting of dozens of dedicated alums, the Club's Admissions volunteers recruit actively, attending college fairs and visiting high schools all year long. From August through February, we conduct alumna interviews with prospectives from Bakersfield to South Bay and from Santa Monica to Santa Fe Springs.

The Club partners with a number of local schools each year to present a Smith College Book Award to rising juniors who have demonstrated academic excellence. Alums also host social teas – many with visiting Smith professors and current students – for prospective students and their families. It's a way for alumnae to share our Smith stories and experiences in order to give future students insight into what Smith may have in store for them once they walk through the Grécourt Gates.
