’05 Smith alum seeks contributions for fun community arts project

November 14th, 2011 § 0

The Smith College Club of Los Angeles recently received this email from Anne Kubitsky ’05 regarding an art project is she is working on. She is seeking our support!

Read on:

Hi there!

My name is Anne Kubitsky (Smith 2005) and I am writing to see if you might be interested in engaging your members in “The Look for the Good Project,” an ongoing community art project. Basically, I am asking people to reflect on something that makes them grateful, write/draw it on a postcard, and then send it to:

What I’m Grateful For
PO Box 602
Old Lyme, CT 06371

It’s really fun and so far — after just a short period of inviting people — I have received cards from all over the
United States (see lookforthegoodproject.org). Since these “glimmers of gladness” will be part of a traveling art exhibition making its debut this January at the Custom House Maritime Museum in New London, CT participants who send a postcard soon might be able to see their work hanging in a museum this January (I’ll post photos of the exhibition on the blog so that people can access it remotely too). Also, if you’d like to learn more about the project, please see my Kickstarter project:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/323465227/the-look-for-the-good-project

Here, you’ll learn about how a whale rescue off the coast of California inspired the whole project and how you can help bring The Look for the Good Project to life. I would be thrilled if you might consider sharing this with the alums in the area.

The Three R’s of Breast Cancer: Risk, Reality and Recovery

October 26th, 2011 § 0

Amy Schancupp ’79 has organized what looks to be a fantastic talk on a pressing issue in women’s public health for November 13.

Frequent mentions of breast cancer in the media may cause a feeling of (over) familiarity with the issues.  However, researchers are making new discoveries every day.  With this in mind, the Smith College Club of Los Angeles invites you to join us breast education seminar produced by the Jewish Healing Center of Los Angeles in partnership with the Angeles Clinic Foundation.

  • Date: Sunday, November 13
  • Time: 3PM-5PM
  • Cost: Free to all Smith alumnae and their guests
  • Location: Community Room at Studio Village, 11786 Moorpark St, Studio City
  • Parking & Transportation: Free parking available in Studio Village. Ignore the warning signs.

RSVP:

More information

Dr. Cathie Chung of The Angeles Clinic Foundation will present the latest research on genetic and environmental factors in breast cancer and strategies for monitoring and prevention in individuals at risk, followed by a question and answer session.
